An optical cable known as toslink is a digital audio cable is used for transferring multi channel sound. There are two types of optical connector, toslink and mini-toslink. The larger type is the most common found on home cinema equipment, the end of the connector is a 6mm square with two corners chamferred and a round centre. The smaller type, which is more common on portable audio equipment, looks like a 3.5mm headphone connector. These cables are used to connect DVD players, Blu Ray, TVs, Sky HD, games consoles such as Playstation 3 and XBox 360 etc to surround sound systems.
