A duplex OM4 fibre lead with ST-SC connectors, made with high-bandwidth 50 micron multimode (50/125) fibre. One fibre carries the transmit signal and the other the receive signal, the arrangement used by almost all fibre transceivers. It supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet up to 400 metres and 40/100 Gigabit up to 150 metres. OM4 is the usual pick for new data centre and server room cabling, and is fully compatible with OM3 equipment and patch panels.
ST uses a round bayonet twist-lock, still found on many established fibre installations. SC is a square push-pull connector, common on older switches, media converters and fibre wall outlets. This lead joins the two types without a separate adapter. Aqua is the standard jacket colour for laser-optimised multimode fibre. Erika violet (sometimes called heather violet) is widely used in the UK and Europe to mark OM4 fibre.
Typical uses: cross-connects in comms cabinets, connecting transceivers to wall outlets, and replacing damaged patch leads.
