TOSLink Optical Cables for Digital Audio
Connect multichannel sound between devices with a single TOSLink cable, the TOSLink connector was originally developed by Toshiba but has now become one of the most common connections for digital audio. The toslink connector is approximately 6mm square with 2 corners chamferred and a round hole or pin in the centre which carries the optical core, most modern TVs will have an optical output that can be conected to a sound bar or surround sound system. A single optical cable can carry multiple sound channels such as 5.1 or 7.1.
The digital audio signals used with optical cables are based on the Sony / Philips Digital Interface standard and hence are often referred to as SPDIF cables.
