Surge protection
A surge protected extension lead contains components that absorb short mains voltage spikes, which can otherwise damage sensitive electronics such as computers, routers, TVs and games consoles. It is an inexpensive way to add some protection to valuable equipment.
Surge protection is not the same as a UPS: it will not keep equipment running during a power cut.
